Welcome to Block Three of our Block of the Week project!
Each block in this project will be a 16-Patch (4×4) pieced using Half Square Triangle Units.
Note: If you made all of your Half Square Triangle blocks after the Introduction post, you can scroll down to the portion of the post for block assembly!
For this block you will need:
(4) 2 7/8″ Red Squares
(4) 2 7/8″ Blue Squares
(8) 2 7/8″ Neutral Squares
Begin by drawing lines on the back side of the neutral squares, corner to corner.
Next place a blue and neutral square, right sides together. Sew 1/4″ on both sides of the drawn line.
Once you have sewn on both sides of the line, cut on the drawn line and press open, to the blue.
Repeat this process for the remaining blue squares. You will end up with (8) blue/neutral Half Square Triangle units.
Next repeat the process using the Red and remaining neutral squares. Press these units open to the Red. You will end up with (8) red/neutral Half Square Triangles.
Once they have all been sewn and pressed you should have (16) units, each measuring 2 1/2″ square.
Now lets arrange them into our block. Lay the units out so they are arranged like the block pictured below.
Sew the units into rows, then join the rows together to make a complete block.
Press the rows in alternating directions. Once the rows are joined together, press the row seams all the same direction.
Your block should measure 8 1/2″ square.
Here is my finished block.
Post your finished block in the comments on this post of our Facebook page. Lets see whose tagging along on this project!
Until next time,
